Popis: Effective protein purification methods are essential to deliver biotechnological products, namely, for therapeutic uses, that meet the increasingly stringent criteria of regulatory agencies around the world. In this context, affinity separation processes, particularly affinity chromatography, have seen considerable developments over the last decades. The increasing demands of worldwide markets for highly purified proteins fostered the development of novel affinity ligands, regarded as safer and more economic alternatives to natural ligands. Affinity ligands tailored to specific biotechnological applications have then emerged from the synthesis and screening of peptide combinatorial libraries, the bioengineering of protein-scaffold domains, and the de novo intelligent design of synthetic affinity ligands.
