Popis: The aim of the present study was to identify markers of oxidative stress in populations exposed to mercury through an integrative review. This is an integrative review study carried out from June to August 2022. The databases selected for the search for articles were the Virtual Health Library- VHL (Lilac's), PubMed, Scielo and Science direct. Some resources available in the databases were used, being the “Research Articles” resource in the ScienceDirect database; the “Clinical Trial” features on PubMed; the filters “Health Sciences”, “Biological Sciences” in the Scielo database and a controlled clinical trial resource in the VHL. After an active and careful search for studies, five articles were included in the results table. The data showed in most studies that mercury is able to change the levels of biomarkers of oxidative stress, such as GPx, GSH, GST, MDA, PON-1 and lower red blood cell oxygen levels. It is concluded that mercury is a chemical agent that compromises the antioxidant system and reduces the functional and compensatory capacity of the exposed organism. However, more clinical studies are necessary for a better understanding of the damages and damages to biological systems, mainly arising from long-term exposure.
