Popis: | Iatrogenic ureteral injury during colorectal surgery is an uncommon, but serious complication. Colorectal operations are the third most common cause of ureteral injury, with an incidence ranging from 0.5% to 1%. The surgeon must have a clear understanding of retroperitoneal anatomy and properly visualize the ureter to prevent injury. Intra-operative identification of ureteral injury is of utmost importance. The role of placement of ureteral catheters to aid in injury identification is debated in the literature, and the surgeon should be familiar with the risks and benefits. Repair of ureteral injuries range from simple primary ureteroureterostomy or reimplantation to complex renal autotransplantation and ureteral substitution. |
