Novel synthesis approach of making efficient nanocomposite via powder metallurgy route: Study of microstructure and mechanical properties

Popis: Ultrasonication mixing technique is used to mix Al-7075 and α-Al2O3 powders for the manufacturing of highly efficient nanocomposites through PM route. By the action of cavitation and acoustic streaming in ultrasonication process, uniform distribution of nanoparticles occurred with excellent interfacial interaction between nanoparticles and the matrix. Microstructural analysis revealed that the α-Al2O3 nanoparticles distributed uniformly in the matrix. Hardness was significantly improved by 40% as compared to the base alloy. Impressive results were obtained in compression test which shows the increment in strength by almost 2.4 times more than that of Al-7075 alloy after incorporation of 2 wt% of nanoparticles.
