Popis: Electroacupuncture was used to relieve pain after oral surgery in 200 patients. They were divided in two groups. One hundred were needled only at the Hegu point, while the remainder were additionally stimulated at tooth specific points related to the area of surgery. Visual analogue pain scores demonstrated a significant relief of pain in both groups, with greater benefit from tooth specific points. Plasma β-endorphin estimations were carried out on pre-operative and post-electroacupuncture samples. A significant rise in β-endorphin levels was noted.
