This paper examines the concept of citizenship constructed by the media, having as object the Globo Organizations (or Globe Communication System), the largest communications group in the country and one of the five largest in the world. Efforts are focused on building a theoretical and analytical framework, from the gramscian concepts of hegemony and civil society, to allow a critical reflection about the mass media, especially the mainstream media, and their crucial role as private apparatus of hegemony that’s creates, reproduces and legitimizes class interests, “educating” ideological and culturally the various classes of civil society. The central hypothesis of this work is the defense of the view that citizenship broadcast by Globo corresponds to the liberal project of society. Understanding liberalism as a way to interpret and construct social reality, in other words, as an ideology that has materiality, we list in text some of their characteristics, legitimized by the Globo in its various forms of action. |
