Popis: To observe the effects of various gases and bacterial toxins on ciliary activity of the airway, the rabbit tracheal mucosa was sealed in the Rose chamber and the frequencies of the ciliary movements were determined by a photo-electric method. During the fixed observation period, ciliotoxicity was not found in O3, O2, ether, N2O, cyclopropane, Bordetella pertussis crude toxin or Pseudomonas aeruginosa toxin, but found in automobile exhaust gas, SO2, cigarette smoke, Halothane, Streptococcus hemolyticus toxin or Staphylococcus aureus crude toxin. Effects of cigarette smoke and Streptococcus hemolyticus toxin were histologically and electron-microscopically examined also.
