Popis: | This article outlines the work of the International Lake Environment Committee, a non‐governmental organization based in central Japan. Lake environments are extremely sensitive to environmental changes in their watersheds, and though eutrophication or pollution may proceed slowly, the damage caused is correspondingly difficult or impossible to reverse. The need for a comprehensive strategy of sustainable development of lake resources and catchment areas led to the formation of ILEC two years ago. The organization's main activities are described. |
