Popis: Spermatozoa are particularly susceptible to oxidative stress (OS) given the high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids contained within their plasma membrane. OS occurs as a result of an imbalance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidants in the body, and is considered a major cause of male infertility. OS negatively impairs sperm function via multiple pathways including induction of sperm DNA damage. Antioxidant supplementation represents one of the possible options in alleviating the detrimental impact of OS on male fertility by restoring or maintaining the delicate redox balance.
