Image sharpening on 3D intensity data in deep turbulence with scintillated illumination

Popis: Image sharpening is a proven method to reconstruct 2D and 3D images in the presence of distributed volume turbulence with coherent illumination. Non-uniform illumination due to scintillation arises when illuminating a distant object through distributed volume turbulence and thus changes the underlying intensity pattern that is to be reconstructed. This paper examines the performance trends that arise when performing 3D image sharpening on a distant object with scintillated illumination patterns. We find that range images are relatively robust to scintillation and show how the quality of reconstructed range images decreases with increasing turbulence strength and when scintillated illumination is introduced.
