Summary The goal of this study is to experimentally confirm and document the distortion of polarization in seismic shearwave reflections in isotropic and anisotropic material and to evolve strategies to correct for this distortion. This will require a full understanding of the factors that influence direct shear wave data and the role they play in characterization and evaluation of subsurface reservoirs using S wave data, particularly polarization information. This investigation explores issues of variations and characterization of this distortion in polarization, what are some of its characteristics in both isotropic and anisotropic media and how effectively we can correct for this polarization |
