The Navy-sponsored WHARFER is the newest addition to the Department of Defense's suite of Engineered Management Systems (EMS). WHARFER is designed to assist the Navy in better managing its waterfront facilities. The foundation of WHARFER is its inventory hierarchy, which defines the relationships among objects in the system. Unlike the single-dimensional inventory hierarchies of other EMSs, WHARFER's multi-dimensional hierarchy enables users the ability to access and extract data in a variety of ways. This paper presents a brief overview of EMSs followed by a detailed discussion of the inventory hierarchy used in WHARFER. |
