Mo-6%Nb single crystal alloy creep strength demonstration for long life thermionic power systems

Popis: Experimental results of one‐ and two‐dimensional creep testing for single crystal Mo‐6%Nb alloy are presented. Three 1‐D specimens were creep‐tested for up to 3000 hours at 1873 to 1973 K and 5 to 15 MPa. One 2‐D specimen tube was creep‐tested for 2000 hours at 1873 K/15MPa. Results confirm the high creep strength of Mo‐6%Nb for long life (10 to 15 year) TFE emitter application in thermionic space nuclear power systems. After the initial transition stage (about 1000 hours), quasi‐steady state 1‐D and 2‐D creep rates were within 20% of each other suggesting little significant effect of anisotropy. More data points will be needed to define the Sherby‐Dom parameters with statistical accuracy.
