Popis: Insect vectors are responsible for transmitting several pathogens during their blood feeding on vertebrate hosts. They can also reduce the productivity in livestock and spread severe diseases to human, such as leishmaniasis, sleep sickness, Chagas disease, malaria, yellow fever, dengue, and Chikungunya and Zika virus. Therefore, sampling these disease vectors is a key component to understand their biology and behavior, as well as to conduct research, surveillance, and control measures. The objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the main sampling methods for insect vectors, specially blood feeding due to their importance on public health. The sampling methods rely on the insect vector’s biology, behavior, and habitats and vary according to their specificity, advantages, and limitations. Preparation, identification, and conservation of sampled insect vectors are also described herein. We discuss importance of information for data collection and management, such as the use of GPS for sampling vector and modeling data for mosquito control. Suggestions for data analyses and statistical approach for entomological data are also provided. These informations can contribute for improving vector surveillance, diversity, and control.
