Popis: Thrips tabaci is worldwide distributed polyphagous pest infesting approximately 140 plant species and is major pest of onion. T. tabaci transmitted IYSV and caused up to 100% damage. Numbers of generation is 2–9 per year depending on environment. Population dispersion depends on abiotic condition, planting date, variety and cropping pattern. Spreading of population was faster when temperature rises between 20.8 -27.7°C and decreased with rainfall, relative humidity and wind speed of 13.7 kph. The attack is more on older plant where outer and upper section of leaves receives 95% of eggs approximately. Host selection and preference is more on cultivars with narrow angles of leaves, dark and waxy coating leaves with high sugar content. Staggered planting of onion and balanced nutrients results in less colonization of onion thrips. Organic mulched plot promotes bioagents and thus low incidence was recorded. A total of 36 predators, 7 parasitoids and 12 fungal pathogens and numbers of botanical insecticides showed effective against onion thrips.
