To understand the processes of air-sea interaction fully we must include the thermodynamic energy exchanges, as well as the transfer of kinetic energy. Jacobs (1942) said it as follows: “For every meteorological change in the atmosphere over the oceans there must be a corresponding change in the energy relationships between sea and atmosphere. Thus, it would seem that any attempts toward a solution of long-period weather problems must be concerned with thermodynamics as well as dynamical factors.” |
