Popis: | We report an a 39-year-old patient suffering from acute paralysis of the limbs and neck muscles, associated with myalgia. The neurological examination showed severe, proximally accentuated paresis of the upper and lower limbs with vigorous triggered monosynaptic stretch reflexes and normal aesthesia. Blood tests revealed hypokalemia and thyrotoxicosis, suggesting hypokalemic thyrotoxic periodic paralysis. After normalisation of the serum potassium level and initiation of thyrostatic treatment, the limb weakness remitted completely within a few hours. |
