Rabies is a fatal neglected zoonotic tropical disease, causing 59,000 death/per year around the world and disproportionately affecting countries like Bangladesh where the resource is limited and many are dealing with pre-existing vulnerabilities. By the virtue of its highest case fatality, rabies costing over 2000 human lives each year with other humanistic burdens in Bangladesh, leaving alone the economic cost. The problem of neglected tropical diseases (NTD) such as rabies is acknowledged and believed that support for tackling this will be emphasized as after 2010 we entered a new phase of NTD movement by global health stakeholders. To ameliorate the situation and achieve the Global Strategic Plan of ending Human Deaths from Dog-mediated Rabies by 2030, multi-pronged approaches are suggested by WHO. The interventions proposed integration effort among human, animal, and other relevant sectors. Emphasis has put on compiling evidence to aid the guidance development, practicing evidence-based advocacy, strengthening capacity and on applied research etc. The current study look to support these aforementioned processes by mapping the existing evidence base of Rabies in Bangladesh. The study will use its broader scope to explore the extent of the published literature and to map and summarize the findings for inform future research. The authors in this project assumes that the findings will also shed light on what have been done so far and the gap in the knowledge base as well as on the capacity of the research stakeholders who are working on rabies in the country. |
