Popis: | Dormant alfalfa (Medicago media Pers. cv. Vernal) was sprayed with 2,4-D [(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetic acid] (as amine) and 2,4-DB [4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) butyric acid] (as butyl ester) in late fall of 1972 and 1973. Alfalfa was damaged less, and narrow-leaved hawks-beard (Crepis tectorum L.) was controlled better by 2,4-DB than by 2,4-D. Herbicide applications had small effects on the quality factors crude protein, crude fibre, carotene, and xanthophylls, and in no case improved them significantly. Differences which were significant and similarities in effect between comparable herbicide rates in the two experiments indicate that losses in forage yield or quality or both are likely to occur when 2,4-D or 2,4-DB is applied to dormant alfalfa. |
