Popis: | The short range configuration of oxygen atoms in a TiO 0.42 crystal has been studied by analyses of X-ray and neutron diffuse scattering. The diffuse scattering is distributed on the planes normal to the c * axis around most of the reciprocal lattice points of H – K =3 n , L =odd and H – K =3 n ±1, L ≠0. The diffuse scattering around each point has a hexagonal symmetry in the L =odd planes just above the interstitial order-disorder transition temperature 575°C. The intensity maximum becomes circular and shifts gradually apart from the reciprocal lattice point with increasing temperature. The intensity distributions are interpreted in terms of the correlative configuration of out-of-steps of the oxygen distribution accompanying the static distortion of titanium lattice. |
