Massive use of wireless networks and the high rate penetration of mobile deviceshave raised severalchallenges to developers. One of the research problems of the data wireless networks is the so-calledvertical handoff, and a great number of vertical handoff algorithms (VHA) thathave been proposed. Most of these algorithms have been tested in simulated environments using simulation tools (e.g. NS-2, OMNeT++, NCTUNs), but only a few algorithms have been tested in a real environment. This paper presents a VHA controlled from a mobile phone and a software prototype for Android platform. One of the goals of our research was to validate the potential of Android's platforms as a tool for research in the topic of controlled vertical handoff from mobile device (MCVHO). |
