Identification of Candida Sp. In the Oral Cavity of the Sumatran Elephant (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus)

Popis: Sumatran elephants are categorized as large mammals with critically endangered conservation status established by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). This research was conducted to identify Candida sp. in the oral cavity of the Sumatran elephant. The study was conducted based on the Odds and Bernaerts method. Swab sample of the elephant's oral cavity was observed after it was planted on CAC media and incubated for 48 hours at 37°C. The identification was carried out based on macroscopic observations of the differences in color of the Candida sp. Observation results showed that in the oral cavity of sumatran elephants can be overgrown with Candida albicans (100%), Candida tropicalis (100%), Candida parapsilosis (25%), Candida glabrata (25%) and other Candida (50%). It can be concluded that 4 types of Candida can be identified in oral cavity of sumatran elephant.
