Popis: | The pressure dependence of the intensity for optical frequency breakdown of nitrogen and argon has been studied using single similar 20 ps, Nd3+ laser pulses at the fundamental and second harmonic frequencies. The gases were studied over a pressure range of similar 102-105 Torr at 1?06 ?m and similar 104-105 Torr at 0?53 ?m. The results lend support to the view that breakdown at both frequencies proceeds via cascade collisional ionization rather than by multiphoton ionization. |
