This study was planned to determine the nutritional habits of the students (17-30 years; 10.7 ± 1.7 years) who studied at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Gumushane University. 69.6% of the students (n = 1271) were female and 30.4% were male. The data were collected using the questionnaire form by face to face interview method. Questionnaire form which is researchers prepares included in the knowledge of sociodemographic characteristics, dietary habits and nutrient consumption frequencies. It was observed that 86.5% of the students had a normal Body Mass Index (BMI). It was determined that 71.7% of the students stayed in the dormitory, 9.1% of them had a diagnosed disease, 36.6% of them received nutritional education, 96.0% of them skipped the main meal, 67.0% of them skipped mostly lunchtime, 97.9% of them consumed snacks. When their nutritional habits are examined, it was determined that 52.4% of the students bought food which is sold by out of the house and 81.8% of this students reported that bought this food because of they were desired. it was found that students consumed cola-carbonated beverages and fast-food products mostly at a rate of 20.5% and 26.5% one day per week, respectively. It was found that the main meal skipping situations and the consumption of snacks were high. For this reason, it should be ensured to give detailed nutrition education to the students in universities and to provide more detailed education programs on healthy nutrition. |
