The two residential buildings in Männedorf, Switzerland, have photovoltaic modules integrated on facades and roofs that produce renewable energy to achieve a CO2 neutral operations goal. Sunage SA, a Swiss company leader in the design, development and production of photovoltaic modules created SUNCOL, a revolutionary BIPV technology relying on fully customisable colours and materials which perfectly integrates into any facade and roof of the building. The SUNCOL BIPV can be used as traditional construction material able to generate an environmentally sound building which has an aesthetically added value. SUNCOL presents five key characteristics: colours, finishings, design, dimension, applications. The future oriented project that features the SUNCOL red-brown BIPV modules has the first fully integrated photovoltaic facade for weather protection and energy generation in monocrystalline technology with a long service life. The Männedorf project was awarded with the Watt d’Or 2021 in the Buildings and Space category by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy for the ecological and economic impact of the project.
