Introduction. Until recent, Russian historical science was dominatedby ideas about the material and cultural causes and conditions of Russia ‘slagging development in the XVII century. Psychological reasons or indicators,i.e. characteristics of the mentality of its collective subject, remain outside theframework of domestic and foreign studies of non-psychological indicators andthe causes of Russia’s lag. Research methods. In accordance with the provisionsof the concept of the ethno-functional synthesis of chaos and cosmos, thestages (components) of archaic, pre-modern, modern and postmodern can bedistinguished in the development of the Russian mentality. These components areconsidered as elements of the image sphere of the mentality of the Russian collective subject. The application of the theory of mental image and its philosophicalinterpretation allows us to build a partially confirmed position in research onthe causal relationship between changes in the structure of the Russian mentalityduring the period of Peter’s reforms and the dynamics of the society developmentaccording to non-psychological indicators. The results of the study. It was foundthat, contrary to the generally accepted opinion, Peter’s reforms contributedto the integration of the archaic and supra-ethnic-religious components of theRussian mentality, which led to the relatively organic inclusion of the moderncomponent in the Russian elite mentality. Discussion and conclusion. Peter’sreforms provided ethno-integrating shifts in the Russian mentality and an increasein the degree of its integrity in terms of creating conditions for the synthesis ofchaotic components of archaic and cosmizing components of modern and partlypremodern. This, in turn, led to the non-psychological indicators of the of societydevelopment growth – the growth of military-political and economic power, thebeginning of the development of education and science, etc. |
