Popis: The chapter on psychosocial issues reviews the impact of the family environment, medical illness, and societal stressors on child well-being. The chapter incorporates clinical scenarios in vignettes that are followed by a question-and-answer format to support clinical application of the material. The psychosocial issues that are presented include different family presentations (e.g., divorce, death of a loved one, adoption, foster care); educational issues (e.g., giftedness); and societal factors (e.g., socioeconomic status, community violence, impact of media). In addition, attention is paid to how these factors have an impact on medical conditions, chronic illness, and other childhood psychological/behavioral challenges (e.g., enuresis, vulnerable child syndrome, pain).
