Popis: | The Araripe Basin originated during the tectonic events that allowed the Gondwana rifting and the South Atlantic opening. The Late Jurassic deposits of this basin occur in the context of the Pre-Rift Tectonosequence and are grouped in the Brejo Santo Formation. The macrofossils and microfossils comprises the fishes Mawsonia gigas and Lepidotes sp., Crocodyliformes, Dinosauria, invertebrates such as ostracods, conchostraceans, gastropod, bivalve and trace fossil. These fossils associated with the sedimentological observations in the outcrops of this lithostratigraphic unit allowed to interpret the depositional environment. The argillaceous red beds are evidence of shallow lakes in flooding areas, in an arid climate, with episodic flooding events. The carbonatic levels and the wide number of mixohaline ostracods species (Cytheracea), indicated brackish waters (salinity between 1 and 24,7%), temperate waters and alkaline pH. The ostracofauna allow to conclude that these deposits are restricted to the local stage Dom Joao (NRT-001 biozone, Petrobras) from the Upper Jurassic. |
