Popis: | Four issues were considered: (1) the stability of temperament over the first year; (2) the relation of infant temperament and cognitive performance; (3) the relationship of infant temperament to home environment; and (4) whether temperament mediates infant reactivity to the environment. Normal infants were administered the Brazelton at one month, were rated on the Revised Infant Temperament Questionnaire at 6 months, and received the Toddler Temperament Scale, UzgirisHunt Scale and the Caldwell HOME Inventory at 12 months. Correlational analyses indicated significant stability of broad temperamental categories from 1–6 months and from 6–12 months, but not from 1–12 months. Relationships between temperament and cognitive performance and between temperament and home environment were scattered and inconsistent. However, temperament was found to be a mediator of environment, such that active infants'cognitive functioning was higher when these infants were reared in organized home environments. |
