Popis: The delivery of treatment for end-stage renal disease presents significant costs and ethical challenges in all countries, including Oman. The national dialysis services in Oman have expanded, between 1985 and 2018, to include an additional private-sector dialysis unit to meet the demands. Since the health services in Oman are provided by the national health system, the services for citizens with renal failure are fully paid for by the government. Despite the expansion of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services, kidney transplantation is limited within Oman, which could be a factor that may challenge the sustainability of the health services. The main purpose of this chapter is to describe the nephrology main history and developments that have taken place in the Sultanate of Oman and, in addition, to include the most paramount data in relation to nephrology in Oman, such as the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease, related health policies, and curious facts and highlights of nephrology in Oman. The method used to collect the most data included in this chapter was approaching the possible primary data source person for each section of this chapter and these persons, in their turn, approaching all the possible data sources either people, national records, or renal registry data. The main aim of this chapter is to provide all nephrology stakeholders around the world with a clear and, somehow, complete picture of nephrology in Oman from the 1980s until the year end of 2018.
