Two M240B barrel blanks were processed with the Gun Liner Emplacement with an Elastomeric Material procedure. The liner material was Stellite 25, a cobalt-chromium alloy. The liners were made by the flow-form process. The lined blanks were sent to FN Manufacturing, Columbia, South Carolina, for hammer-forging and final machining. Firing tests of the 2 barrels were successful, with no liner movement observed. Firing tests at high rates of fire need to be conducted to determine both wear and integrity of the liner. |
