One of the major problems in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is to control paralyzed muscles. The stimulated muscle is a complex, nonlinear, and time-varying actuator, whose control requires the identification of both static and dynamic properties. In this paper, it is shown that the EMG-surface response of electrically stimulated muscle contains significant information for identifying the muscle behavior as well as the significant parameters for movement control. The approach is a good start for preparing suitable methodological tools for cognitive modelling and controlling the paralyzed muscle, based on the knowledge concerning EMG-surface response generation mechanism. |
