Popis: SUMMARY Diseases of the pancreas in children are often congenital; the genetic basis of some conditions such as cystic fibrosis have been elucidated using molecular biologic techniques. Anatomic abnormalities in childhood that cause symptomatic pancreatic disease are usually treated surgically. The biochemical abnormalities found with enzyme deficiencies, CF, and Shwachman's syndrome are best treated with medical therapy. The most common cause of acute pancreatic injury in children is trauma. Chronic pancreatic insufficiency usually occurs secondary to CF.
