Signatures for Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless critical behavior in the planar antiferromagnet BaNi2V2O8

Popis: | BaNi${}_{2}$V${}_{2}$O${}_{8}$ is a solid-state compound with a three-dimensional crystal structure, but it reveals entirely two-dimensional (2D) magnetic properties. Depending on the temperature regime, BaNi${}_{2}$V${}_{2}$O${}_{8}$ exhibits different 2D magnetic behaviors, providing unique experimental access to exotic magnetic phenomena. In particular, within the planar regime it provides a rare opportunity to explore Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless criticality in solid-state antiferromagnets. Indeed, a comparison of the experimental results here to theoretical models developed for the Hamiltonian of this compound illuminates clear signatures for BKT critical behavior. |
