A new approach of self-sustainable energy system by the use of solar energy is proposed in this paper. A small signal model of battery charger for lead acid battery and a sine wave inverter using solar PV, single stage buck converter and transformer is proposed in this paper. Solar energy is used for charging the lead acid battery. Charging of battery is done in three modes. Here both MPPT and charge controlling techniques are used for charging of the battery. When the battery has charged to a sufficient voltage level the power required by the battery for completing a full charge is much lesser than the former. Since a higher power output is obtained from the solar PV system, power is wasted. In this system a switch over from MPPT to constant voltage charge controller by using a PI controller is used for the later. The switch over is done by measuring the state of charge of the battery. The triggering pulse for the buck converter is obtained by comparing the output of the PV array and the SOC of the battery. To keep the battery at fully charged condition at no load a third mode called trickle charging mode is introduced. The buck converter is followed by a battery which is connected in parallel with the DC bus and is connected to the input side of the inverter. Output of the inverter is given to a filter circuit to obtain the required sine wave output. |
