Popis: | Attila E. Pavlath has been elected American Chemical Society president-elect for 2000. Pavlath will serve as ACS president in 2001 and as a member of the ACS Board of Directors from 2000 to 2002. Pavlath, lead scientist in the Process Chemistry & Engineering Unit of the Department of Agriculture's Western Regional Research Center in Albany, Calif., received 13,795 votes. The other candidate, Alan Schriesheim, director emeritus of Argonne National Laboratory, received 12,709 votes. Of the 152,308 ballots that were mailed to ACS members, just under 18% were cast with proper signatures and envelopes. Of the 26,891 valid ballots cast in the presidential race, 376 indicated neither candidate, and 11 indicated votes for both candidates. Pavlath has served on numerous national ACS governance bodies, including the ACS Board of Directors since 1991.
