Popis: | Several compositions of zirco-mullite were prepared from ground zircon sand and technical alumina. Different shapes like thermocouple sheaths, pots, crucibles etc were fabricated and fired at temperatures 1500° and 1550°C. X-ray diffraction of the products sintered at 1500°C showed the presence of mullite, monoclinic zirconia and alpha alumina. The yttria containing batches developed tetragonal zirconia. The modulus of rupture (water absorption 0–8.8%) varied between 566 and 1243 kg.cm–2. In the thermal shock resistance test, from 1200°C to the ambient, all the test pieces survived through 15 cycles of quenching. Corrosion of the samples by borosilicate glass after heat treatment at 1500°C was not evident by visual inspection. |
