Radiologic diagnostic in injured children and during pregnancy must be focused on the clinically leading injury. It has to enable the surgeon to work out a specific plan of treatment in order to achieve the best result and functional outcome. The surgical scientific communities and appliers of radiologic diagnostic agree, that the amount of radiologic diagnostic in injured children and during pregnancy must be adjusted to the severness of injury. X-rays of the contralateral extremity for example in children, are not recommended. In polytraumatized patients, the rationale of radiologic imaging must be focused on life threatening targets in order to achieve higher survival rates. Todays modern radiologic technology allows a high level of radiation protection. The amount of radiologic exposure can be neglected in specific situations. In polytraumatized children and polytraumatized pregnant women, a polytrauma CT-scan is recommended in order to facilitate the decision making of further operative therapy without wasting time. |
