Popis: Work is underway to develop a new reactive flow model for heterogeneous solid explosives that will explicitly take account of the microstructure of the explosive. As the first step in our undertaking, a 1D Lagrangian multi-material hydrocode, incorporating realistic material models, has been written as a test-bed to study the formation and subsequent ignition of ‘hot-spots’ as a result of shock induced pore collapse. The effects of heat conduction are modelled, but chemical reactions are not yet included. Using a simplified spherical model of the explosive, heating mechanisms comprising elastic-plastic flow, elastic-viscoplastic flow, and adiabatic compression of a gas-filled pore, have been used to investigate the pore collapse response. Results of numerical simulations are presented and some influential parameters affecting ‘hot-spot’ formation identified.
