Popis: | X-ray scattering from single crystals of the di-n-alkyl ethers of pentadecaethylene glycol with n = 13, 15 and 16 was consistent, for all practical purposes, with an orthorhombic unit cell including 4 molecules with space group Pcca. The long spacing varied with chain length but the other unit cell dimensions were common to all three samples. Powder photographs from a wider range of pentadecaethylene glycol di-n-alkyl ethers, n = 13 to 18 inclusive, were indexed by means of the orthorhombic unit cell with average values of a = 9.38 A and c = 9.11 A . Scattering from the samples orientated by directional crystallisation was also indexed and the rotational axes identified. |
