This paper describes a very rare case of benign renal tumor. A 30-year-old woman was pointed out a left upper abdominal mass on the periodic inspection on the 7th month of pregnancy at elsewhere. On admission, elastic soft, smooth surfased, well demarcated, and poorly movable giant tumor extending from the left costal arch to umbilical level was palpated. An angiomyolipoma of the left kidney was suspected from the findings of computed tomography, angiography and operation was performed. The tumor was located in the retroperitoneal space and was supposed to arise from the left kidney, but it did not invaded other organs nor great vessels. The tumor was excised with the left kidney. Resected specimen was a 1760g, 22×5×7cm, well demarcated grey-whitish, homogenious solid tumor. Histologically the tumor was mostly composed of hiarinzed ground substance and scarcely of cell components. Renal tuble like structure was rarely recognized but adipose tissue, vascular component and smooth muscular component were very little, and malignant finding was not seen. The tumor was histologically not compatible with any other neoplastic lesion, but was thought to be a kind of hamartoma arising in the course of nephrogenesis. |
