Popis: A considerable amount of fifteenth-century verse had a presence outside the context of manuscripts or printed books. In some cases this was a spoken presence, involving the oral performance of poetry, the communal reading of verse, and the role of poems in social occasions such as feasts, where they sometimes featured in both written and spoken form as subtleties. In other cases it involved reading words inscribed or somehow registered on something that did not take book-shaped form, as for example posted bills. Discussion covers the kinds of verse that survive on material objects, from swords to drinking vessels, and those poems such as charms and prayers that were recorded in forms to be worn about the body.
