Early onset of puberty and accelerated skeletal maturation in pseudo-hypoparathyroidism (PHP) have repeatedly been observed. Early puberty was first noted by Elrick and his co-workers in 1950, in 2 out of 4 patients described by these authors (Elrick et al., 1950). Several years later, Steinbach and Young (1966) concluded from their own observations and a survey of the literature that accelerated maturation of the skeleton occurred in 9 out of 60 patients. Werder (1979) reported a similar incidence of early puberty and advanced skeletal maturation in a smaller number of patients. Late puberty or retarded development have been encountered less often. |
