Popis: This paper presents a novel design of a co-axial fed Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna (CMPA) with high efficiency having a circular defected ground plane. The proposed antenna, designed at 5.12 GHz, using HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) 13.0 software, is found to operate between 5.1725-5.3254 GHz, resonating at 5.248 GHz. MATLAB R2015a software has been used to determine the center position of circular fractal slots on the patch. The substrate material used for the design of the proposed antenna is Rogers RT/duroid 5880 of dielectric constant 2.2 and thickness 1.5 mm. Various antenna parameters such as return loss (S11), Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), radiation pattern, radiation efficiency, gain, directivity and bandwidth are assessed and examined. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed antenna can be used for 5 GHz Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications demanding high efficiency.
