After the analysis of the principal causes of error in appearance potential work, this paper deals with the determination of appearance potentials of a number of important ions of aliphatic amines as of ionisation potentials of theses substances. It is found that ionization potentials of amines always have a value not far from 9,5 volts. This would indicate that ionization falls upon the nitrogen atom. Dissociation energy of the C-N bond in aliphatic amines is found to be approximately 3,3 ev. The way how the ionization potential, the electric moment and basic strength of the amines vary with nature and number of radical associated with the nitrogen atom has been compared. |
