ELECTROSTATIC SEPARATION TO IMPROVE GERMINATION OF CARROT AND CELERY SEED

Popis: read in open containers prior to preconditioning and separation on a belt-type electrostatic separator. Electrostatic and preconditioning tests were conducted at 10° C and 15% relative humidity. Two electrode positions along with four preconditioning tinies (0, 6, 24, and 48 hours) were selected. A total of 255 fractions, including the control samples, were packaged for germination testing. Electrode positions created significant differences in the fraction germination and fraction weights of carrot seed and only the fraction weight of celery seed. For both carrot and celery seed, the nonpinned fractions of the electrostatic separations had significantly higher germinations than the pinned fractions.
