DETERMINING AND ANALYSING MUSIC TEACHER CANDIDATES’ STUDY BEHAVIOURS IN TERMS OF CERTAIN VARIABLES

Popis: According to many teacher trainers, study habits are one of the most important factors that directly determine students’ achievement. Students’ study behaviours have prominent role not only in the academic environment but also throughout the whole of their lives. Hence, acquiring these behaviours and turning them into permanent behaviours are one of the most important tasks in the learning-teaching situations. In order to increase the academic achievement, it is important to know how the students study, and to determine to what extent the students have the effective learning habits. The purpose of this study is to explore the study behaviours of the music teacher candidates studying in Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Education Department, and to analyse their study behaviours in comparison with the variables such as gender, age, grade and academic achievement. The study group consisted of 78 music teacher candidates studying in Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Education Department in 2015-2016 Academic Year Fall Term. Four conclusions were reached in the study. First, it was found that there is a high correlation between the music teacher candidates’ study behaviours and their academic achievements. Second, the study concluded that when compared to men teacher candidates, women teacher candidates have higher scores in terms of the study behaviours. Another conclusion is that, there is a significant correlation in terms of the class variable, especially for the third and fourth grade students. The final conclusion is that there is not a significant correlation between the music teacher candidates’ study behaviours and their academic achievements in terms of the age variable.
