This is a descriptive, exploratory study that aims to evince the students' perceptions about science and food technology. Through a questionnaire with 44 closed questions, we discuss current issues related to production, storage and consumption of food. Topics covered included organic foods, genetically modified foods, food additives, irradiated foods, pesticides and packaging. The Likert scale questionnaire was submitted to students in public and private elementary and middle schools. By means of simple correlation analysis we try to infer the aversion or fear of the chemicals that the students have about the subject of food. The grouping of specific issues allowed the construction of a scale of chemophobia. Based on the interpretation of this scale, we identified the profile of students with a higher degree of chemophobia: they are public school students, female, whose main source of information is the internet. In future research we intend to broaden the questionnaire theme and diversify the sample in order to better understand the manifestations of chemophobia in the public perception of science. |
