The article characterizes six-year-old’s speech activity in their native tongue. It underlines that storytelling is one of the most favorite kinds of speech activity of six-year-olds. The differences between traditional and digital storytelling are given. The notion “digital storytelling” is defined. Digital storytelling is considered as a teaching method and as a learning one. The advantages of digital storytelling for creating an electronic portfolio are mentioned. The necessity to provide kindergarteners with opportunities to create their own stories is stressed upon. The usage of digital storytelling is recommended as students’ electronic portfolios for recording and storage of their utterances in the English language and their art activity. The difficulties of usage of digital storytelling at a primary school at the English lessons are revealed. The results of experimental teaching kindergarteners using digital storytelling as a support for listening comprehension and retelling of English fairy tales are given. The article investigates what multimedia components influence the process of teaching kindergarteners listening comprehension and retelling of English fairy tales with the usage of digital storytelling the most. The slides to our multimedia presentation in PowerPoint are presented. The article states that the usage of visuality without animation effects is expedient for teaching listening for gist; the usage of visuality either with animation effects or sound effects is expedient for teaching listening for detailed understanding. The article also clarifies that the usage of visuality either with animation effects or sound effects is expedient for teaching retelling English fairy tales. |
