Popis: Flow cytometry is a technique that allows individual optical analysis of different particles and can provide results in a few minutes after the completion of the determinations. There are many applications of this technique to the Clinical Microbiology, ranging from the detection and quantification of microorganisms up to studies that evaluated different microbial cell parameters, as for example tests such as important as the determination of the susceptibility to chemotherapeutic agents. This paper aims to review the basis and instrumentation of the flow cytometry including UF-1000i Sysmex urine analyzer (Sysmex Corporation, Kobe, Japan), and the main applications of this technique in Clinical Microbiology.
